The Nobel Peace Prize
The Nobel peace prize was created in 1901 when Alfred Nobel signed a larger part of his fortune to a series of prizes called the Nobel Prize there are many category in with a person can receive a Nobel Prize but the one that I’m going to focus on is the Nobel peace prize. The Nobel peace prize was created in the year of 1901 and has continued to this day with each year some one being elected to receive the metal of peace to show the great difference they have made in this world. The winners are chosen by Norwegian Nobel committee. He committee chose which person is going to be in which field of the prizes based on the work they did that year. (The Nobel Peace Prize 2011)
The person I choose was Ellen Johnson she won the medal in peace in 2011 for working to try and give freedom of speech and right to women in Liberia, Africa. (The Nobel Peace Prize 2011) Ellen not only works in Liberiabut also is the president of the country. (The Executive Mansion.) After many years of standing back and watching her beloved country fall to the ground she decided to stand up and fight for what she believe. Going up against one of the most feared and powerful warlord of the time Charles Taylor he was ranked second to him. Later she came to America in order to study and learns politic but watched the Liberian government very closely. She later went back and works in the government. She was appointed minister of finance and continued to watch over her country. (The Executive Mansion.) When Charles Taylor was fined guilty for crimes against humanity Ellen was grateful after seeing what her country had gone thru she was devastated and crushed. She ran for president in 2006 one year after I left the country. (The Executive Mansion.) And won against famous soccer player George Oppon Waya and almost lost to him. Ellen won and now is serving her country rightfully and as they have hoped for years.Liberia still has alot of way to go but to together they can make it out of the destruction and doom they have brought upon themselves.
Ellen was born in Liberia herself in October 29, 1938 although she had to share her award she is grateful to have gotten one. (The Nobel Peace Prize 2011). To show that one dayLiberia will be a grate nation to the world. To me Ellen is an in inspiration because she believed in a country and stuck by it to help the country get thru the bad times it has had. Not only that she also fighting a battle to get women inAfrica the rights they so much deserve and the kindness the need in that harsh world.
